What a beautiful day!

"The A-Team" Heather and Dr. Spooner

The last couple of days have actually been pretty good. (Despite the drama on that momma's board.)

First, we need to go back to Tuesday. There is no other way to describe it -- Tuesday nights are a BITCH. Studying and preparing for Dr. Spooner's all-day-long class is crazy. We had a big internal anatomy test coming up and I was doing my usual huffing and puffing around the house... "gotta learn this, gotta learn this!" is my mantra on Tuesday nights.

Wednesday comes and I get a freaking 99 on my test! My buddy Heather beat me with her perfect 100! YOU GO GIRL! After the test we hit the lab to dig inside of the cats once again. We've been messing with dead cats since early in part one of the course, so we're all pretty cool with them now. Heck, I've even grown quite fond of the smell of the lab. We explored the internal anatomy a little more, looked at the vena cava and aorta closely, looking inside of the kidneys, and explored the male and female reproductive systems. At one point, Dr. Spooner asked us a question about the Thymus. I knew that we'd covered that last semester but for the life of me I could not remember its function. I was like, "I can NOT remember!" And someone from the back of the class made a comment like, "How do you expect the rest of us to remember when one of the smartest girls in class can't." That made me a smile a little, but Andy has now nicknamed me Hermione.

Mentioning Andy, he stopped by the lab twice after lunch. Once to bring me money because he "worries" when I leave the house without cash on me. Too cute... The second time was to bring me a letter from Ringling Brothers. I had written to them a while back asking them to donate tickets to our Relay For Life raffle, but when I didn't hear back from them I figured that they weren't going to do it. Well, they sent a family four-pack of tickets to the house and Andy brought it up to me. He knew that I'd be excited! My team's money is due on St. Valentine's Day and this gives us a great raffle to do this weekend for our final fund-raising push.

I came home with scrubs that reeked of the lab and tired as hell, but in high spirits thanks to such a great grade and a great day in the lab in general. The letter from Ringling Brothers was icing on the cake.

I called my team and told them the news. We'd planned to hold a "Souper" Fund Raiser at the school today -- with each of us bringing a crock-pot of soup and were going to sell cups of soup for $1 each, along with our $1 raffle tickets (we are raffling off a "date" basket complete with movie tickets, dinner for two at at nice restaurant, and a gas card to get there and back) and some flower arrangements that had love coupons attached for $3.

Thursday:
By myself, I've raised $105 and we made $86 at Wal-Mart the other day. I don't know what the other girls have done so far, but going into today's "souper" we were closing in on at least $200. The date basket will be raffled off on Friday, but we're extending the circus raffle through the weekend. We made over $200 today at the school! Everyone loved my Italian dish -- hand-rolled meatballs with penne pasta and home made sauce. The chili and vegetable soups were a big hit, too. (A big ol' thanks to the local Wendy's who donated a bunch of their chili cups and lids so that students and professors on the go could by a cup of soup from us.)

We also learned today that we won our first mission in Dr. Hjelm's class! Our brochure promoting the school (which I worked VERY hard on) won, so the other team has to "fire" a member. (Our teams are based on "The Apprentice" and you can only get "fired" three times during the semester. Otherwise you fail the course.) We're hitting Wal-Mart again on Saturday and feel confident that the raffle for the Ringling Bros. tickets will be a big money draw. We've got over $400 now... and the other team is having communication issues so I have a good feeling about our chances of going 2-and-0. I don't want to count my chickens before they hatch, but a little optimism never hurt anyone.

So here I am -- a four day weekend ahead of me and a good mood that makes everything sunny. I have some major studying to do, but that's OK. I like to study. Perhaps Andy is right ... I am a Hermione!
