Lent day 6: Sola Scriptura

It has been a long weekend. I am tired and not feeling well, but that's par for the course when you're creating a new little life, right? With that in mind, I am going to cheat on tonight's post. I'm posting a link to another site for information instead of going through the trouble to post it here myself. I just want to get offline and in bed.

On Feb. 5th, I did a post on Bible history. Of course, my dear Protestant sister, Kerri, posted her two-cents in the form of links to anti-Catholic sites, but that's OK. It just shows her bias and disregard for factual resources. I also recommend a DVD from The History Channel called "Banned from the Bible." It talks bout the Christian canon of the Bible, why the canon was set in the first place, and how the Catholic Councils decided which works would be included in the New Testament and why the others were not.

On the second day of Lent, Feb. 7th, I did a post on "The Word of God," since it is something that many Protestant think is the Bible only. It's not.

Why am I talking about this? Certainly we Catholics regard the Bible as the Holy Inspired Written Word of God. However, Jesus never commanded that His followers write down a single thing. And, seeing that there wasn't a Christian Bible for 400 years, no printing press until the 15th century, and a poor literacy rate until the last couple of hundred of years, the idea that the Bible is all a believer needs is pure poppycock. St. Paul told us to hold fast to both written and oral traditions. The Bible is, after all, written tradition! And, it is the church that is said the be the "pillar of truth" in the Bible, not the Bible itself!

Without further ado, I post a link to The Scripture Catholic's "Sola Scriptura Q&A Page."

Now... to the fridge to get a cucumber and some Italian dressing for dipping it in while I feed the lil' bambino and put my feet up.
