I found one such workshop here in my state and requested information.
So much for the idea that doulas have extensive training in pharmacological pain relief. You'll notice that only about two hours are spent talking about pain control via medication. The following is the brochure that I received in the mail today for the "Professional Labor Support Education (DONA Certified)" to be held Oct. 25 & 26, 2008 in West Columbia, S.C. (The cost of which is $275 which "includes light snacks and lunch both days" and their "doula manual."
Part of me wants to take this, just to hear what is said. But I am not shelling out $275 to a doula to "teach" me anything. Plus, I have a feeling I'd get kicked out for asking questions and making points that would make blood boil. Ah well ...
