Girl time, big bellies, and JP drains

Well, here it is, nearly 4 a.m. in the morning and I am laying here eating Ruffles French Onion Dip and chips, sipping on some homemade Southern sweet tea, and playing on the internet. Andy is snoozing beside me, under the influence of Lortab 5/500 and fighting off a low-grade fever. I really need to check his JP drain again, but I don't want to disturb him as his sleep hasn't been very good lately.

We're very thankful that the lymph nodes weren't cancerous. Now we're just dealing with the post-op pain, swelling, and drainage. This problem with the fevers, swollen lymph cluster of nodes, and such has been going on for a month ... Thank God it's nearly over. We go to see the surgeon on Thursday so I hope all stays well between now and then.

With my third trimester pregnancy issues and Andy's illness, poor Bella nearly got lost in the "woe is me" shuffle. Luckily, she has a good friend in the neighborhood that has been spending whole days at our house. I've given them fun things to do, so Bella has not only been entertained, but Andy and I've had a break from playing all of the time. Over the last four days, Indya has been here three times. On Saturday, the girls watched Disney movies, played Barbies, and made fairy doors. On Sunday, I took the kiddos to the movies to see "WALL-E" and then to McDonald's for Kids Meals to get them out of the house. Monday was spent at the hospital and pharmacy, so no play date then. But today (erm, yesterday now) Indya came over and they played Barbies, we then hit a local diner for old-fashioned burgers and fries (and ice cream!), ran some errands, went to my two-week OB appointment, and made cupcakes. I fixed 12 very large cupcakes and set up a station with frostings and sprinkles, gave the girls a plate with six cupcakes each, and let them go at it, decorating at will. They had a blast! Today (Wednesday) Bella has gymnastics, but afterwards we'll pick up Indya and hit Sonic for fruit slushes and then go to the local park for a while. I have a frameable scrapbooking project for them to do when we get back to the house.

Bella loves the play times, and it gives us parents a break, but I must admit ... it really is strange to hear all of the girly giggling coming from her bedroom!

Bella and I have been draining the Jackson-Pratt line as often as possible. She and I both love biology and medicine, so it's pretty neat for us to slap on a pair of latex gloves and pour the blood/serum mix out of the bulb into the little pink emesis basin. It's a little disgusting for Andy for some reason, but neat as hell for us. I really should go back and do my nursing clinicals. It really was a waste to go all through school for nursing only to back out at clinicals thanks to my vomit phobia. Perhaps next year I'll return to nursing school and finish my clinicals. I really would love to work in an O.R. I can take blood, guts, pus, and such all day long. The inner workings of the body is simply fascinating. And, I could get Bella into the O.R. to watch a surgery or two in a few years.

The pregnancy is going well. We're currently measuring 31.5 weeks, which means we have <>
Well, I really need to get up, brush my teeth to get rid of this oniony taste, put the onion dip back in the fridge and the chips back in the cubbard, make some tea for Andy for later today, tidy up the kitchen, get some laundry started, and drain Andy's JP drain.
Have a wonderful day!
